Comparison of Band saw Slicers and Slithers to the

Equimex Oscillating Blade Horizontal Slicers.

Equimex manufactures Horizontal Slicers for the food industry now for 15 years and have the experience to all sorts of horizontal slicing systems in the world. And how do the Equimex slicers then compare to the band saw slicers, being used before.

To use the band saw slicer in the poultry branch was done by Johnsson and they created a nifty machine capable of slicing chicken fillets once. This was in the early 80's. It proved to be a good concept and horizontal slicing the small fillets in two slices worked fine. Then farmers started to grow their chicks bigger and bigger and the chicken breast fillets became larger. So horizontal slicing in only two slices would still give you a slice of around 150g. Horizontal slicing in more than two slices became a necessity.

Equimex launched a horizontal slicer in the mid 90's that is very much capable of having more than one blade. Up to three was possible and later they developed a machine which could use 10 blades. And it was introduced  for turkey steaks and cutlets, pork, cooked chicken and  red-meat.

Setting the standard of the quality of the slices much higher as the blade is oscillating no chicken breast fillets move to the sides of the machine or are being torn. And at high oscillations making a very smooth slice. Some food processors even put the sliced side as the top side in  their tray packaging. Different from the band saw blade the oscillating blade is simulating a hand cut at a much higher accuracy.

One of the other differences is the breaking of band saw blades. When a band saw is running constantly the band saw is being bend constantly and then metal fatigue will set in. Ergo the band saw breaks. Not even looking at the Hassle of measuring it to make sure no metal is in your end product,  I want to look at the yearly maintenance costs comparison for the blades only.

As you can see there is a huge difference already in just having sharp blades in your machine. Maintenance spends huge amounts on band saw blades.

So looking and comparing machine prices a band saw slicer / slither is sometimes cheaper to buy, which the initial costs low. Blades are very expensive and  therefore it is better to have slightly higher initial cost and many years of saving on your maintenance budget.

Be wise and horizontal slice, but be much wiser use an Equimex Horizontal Slicer
